MONTECITO (CBSLA) – A house in Montecito's hillside enclave, owned by comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, broke in earlier this month.
Expensive jewelry and watches were stolen when burglars broke in on July 4, the Santa Barbara County's sheriff's office confirmed on Thursday.
The house was targeted because of the couple's celebrity status, the sheriff's office said.
No arrests were made and the house's address was not published. There was no word on whether DeGeneres and de Rossi were living in the apartment at the time or whether there was a surveillance video of the suspects.
The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing. It is unclear whether the break-in is related to others.
There have been a number of celebrity burglaries in the Los Angeles area in recent years. In January 2019, a man was arrested and accused of breaking into at least 13 celebrity houses from 2017. Hundreds of stolen items were recovered.
Victims included singer Rihanna, rapper Whiz Khalifa, boxer Manny Pacquiao, LA Rams head coach Sean McVay, former Dodgers star Yasiel Puig, Demi Lovato, Floyd Mayweather, Rhonda Rousey, David Spade, Drake, Scott Disick, Usher and Jason Derulo, Rakim Mayers, Alanis Morissette, Fabio, Amber Rose, Nicki Minaj, Kendall Jenner, Derek Fisher, Emmy Rossum and Jaime Pressley.
Sheriff officials advise residents not to post on social media when they go on vacation.
