Burial and this album in particular are special to me because it helped me find my place in music and it has hugely inspired my sound as a producer.
When I was a young teenager, I played around with music software and spent hours on electronic music forums. In one of these forums I met some producers from Athens and after a year of talking and working online I decided to get on a plane to make music with them (from Australia to Greece as a 19 year old to meet me Some guys from the internet – my poor mom LOL!) Thankfully they were great and we had the best time making music, going to raves and getting introduced to Burial – which honestly changed my life.
From Athens I traveled a little way through Portugal, Spain and Morocco with Burial as the soundtrack. Eventually I landed in London and got a door job at The End (a legendary dance music nightclub that sadly no longer exists). I listened to Burial every morning on my way home from my shift on a night bus – which I think is the perfect place to get his music. Hear his song "Night Bus" – haha.
In short, I started producing the music that I made because of Burial. I fell in love with the layered ambient textures, the tuned RnB samples, the lo-fi garage drums, and the dark, gritty vibe. and that inspired me and helped me find my way as a young producer. I am still a big fan of Burial to this day.
